DISCOVER THE SBAGLIATO

Oct 15, 2022

If ever there was a drink that provided an all-sensory experience, we’d argue it’s the Negroni Sbagliato. Here’s how it enlivens each sense.

SIGHT – the enticing red glow.

SMELL – the fragrant concoction of aromatics.

TASTE – the flavorful mix of ingredients.

FEEL – the effervescent tingling sensation.

SOUND – the hypnotizing tones of Emma D’Arcy pronouncing it.

If that doesn’t allure you enough and you want to find out more about this much talked about cocktail, read on to discover its origins, how to make it, and best foods to pair it with.

WHAT IS A NEGRONI SBAGLIATO?

We all know what a Negroni Cocktail is, but the Negroni Sbagliato is a sparkling variation of that. Legend has it a bartender in Milano accidentally invented it during the 1970s. We don’t know if it was distraction or experimentation, but he substituted gin for prosecco and subsequently created this classic cocktail.

The drink is named after this fortuitous mix-up – Sbagliato means ‘wrong’ or ‘mistaken’ in Italian. But there’s no mistaking the decadence of this delicious aperitif. If only all wrongs tasted this right.

Ever since then, Sbagliato, or Negroni Sbagliato, became the name generally used for identifying this effervescent variation of the original.

The Negroni Sbagliato is the perfect drink to impress your friends. Try making it at home to elevate your occasion. At MARTINI, we like to put another twist to it, where we add MARTINI Riserva Speciale Ambrato vermouth, instead of the classic red vermouth, for a refreshing, crispy taste with floral and herbal notes and a touch of gentle bitterness.

MARTINI SBAGLIATO AMBRATO

‘Sbagliato’, meaning mistaken in Italian, comes from the accidental swap of the gin in a Negroni for Prosecco. This gives a softer, more effervescent experience, especially when served with the delicate taste of MARTINI Riserva Speciale Ambrato.
