The original Italian vermouth
MARTINI MEETS ROSSI
MARTINI & ROSSI® captures the spark that set two men on a lifelong quest to make their stamp on Italian culture. Alessandro Martini - a spirited entrepreneur with a global vision - and Luigi Rossi - a creative muse whose botanical fragrances would lure noses along Turin’s via Dora Grossa... The year was 1863 when their newfound partnership was manifested in their first vermouth: The MARTINI & ROSSI® Rosso. This original blend remains the same to this day.
'VOLERE É POTERE'
These are the words immortalised on the gates of Casa Martini. “Where there’s a will, there’s a way”, echoes the shared vision of Alessandro Martini and Luigi Rossi to represent the greatest in Italian quality and style.
OUR HOMELAND: PESSIONE
Since 1864, the fields of Pessione in northern Italy are where our heart calls home. The Turin-Genoa railway line passes right beside us, which was key to our ambition of expansion. Generations of families have built Martini to what it is today. Local faces are rich with pride and the air is sickly sweet with the aroma of our vermouth.
TODAY’S MARTINI & ROSSI® MASTERS
Our artisans of today are 8th generation MARTINI & ROSSI® masters. Each following in the footsteps of their predecessors. All dedicated craftsmen and custodians of MARTINI & ROSSI®’s quality and integrity. The only three people worldwide to know Mr. Rossi’s original recipe.
Originally from a village just outside our home of Pessione, and a student of the world-renowned Scuola Enologica di Alba, where many MARTINI & ROSSI® experts have honed their craft. After 18 years of training, Musso succeeds the 30-year tenure of former master blender, Luciano Boero.
Hailing from nearby Turin, Ivano is our 8th Master Herbalist to follow Mr. Rossi. Our most complex and precious secret is how the taste, aroma and texture of our specially chosen botanicals is captured. Tonutti has spent the past 25 years continuing this legacy.
MARTINI & ROSSI®’s original recipe remains guarded under lock and key. Our masters know it only by scent and taste. Over 500 botanical samples pass under Ivano’s nose each year, and only the combined experience of himself and Beppe can maintain Luigi Rossi’s legacy.
WINE AND BOTANICALS
Vermouth cannot be one without the other. Together, they barrage the senses with taste, aroma, texture and colour. Our vermouths blend Trebbiano wine from Emilia Romagna, and Catarratto wine from Sicily, to which we apply our botanical mastery. Aromatic herbs, fragrant fruit, exotic woods and captivating spices combine in different amounts and formations to produce ‘dry-blends’. The interaction between these herbs in the extraction process creates a unique flavour for each MARTINI & ROSSI® expression.
The hills around Asti in Piemont is the place where sparkling wines made their first appearance in 1850. And this is where our winery is located - in Santo Stefano Belbo. The market there attracts 300 growers, many of whom have worked with us for generations. They help in the collection of the "gold hills" white Muscat.
One of the most north-western regions of Italy. Our home of Pessione sits within it, as well as the Asti region, from which we source the Bianco Moscato grape that you’ll taste in our MARTINI & ROSSI® Asti.
The region in the north-east of Italy has developed the tradition of sparkling wines since the '30s. Famous for the production of sparkling wine, it is from here that comes the Glera grapes from which we derive the MARTINI & ROSSI® Prosecco.
ART, BEAUTY AND MAGIC
A true catalyst for culture. Our pioneering art department created MARTINI & ROSSI® posters that are today considered timeless pieces of Italian heritage. Commissions include luminary artists and designers. Not forgetting the stars of the big screen and MARTINI & ROSSI®.
WELCOME TO THE TERRAZZA…
Across Europe’s major cities, the MARTINI TERRAZZA® was hot on everyone’s lips, either opening or closing anything cultural and artistic that happened in Milan during the 1950s-60s. It was truly a ‘who’s who’ of cultural icons, and the rooftop parties became the most exciting and, at times, courageous place to be during the glamour heyday.
IN THE DRIVING SEAT
As with culture, we’ve always felt a kinship with the best expressions of sport. Racing has long been part of our DNA. The rush of emotion, the intensity of the moment, the purity of reaction. We first flirted with speed at the Gran Coppa of 1925 and have been lured by its spell ever since.
